The Barbaro family are one of the finest families in Malta. Firstly, are directly descendant to the Venetians Noted in 990A.D. Also Patricians of Venice, Played an important part in the Venetian Empire, and married a member of the Sovereign Ducal Families of Naxos Islands in Greece, which acquired the extra surname of Crispo (For an account of the Barbaro Family see "The Noble of Malta by Marquis George Crispo-Barbaro, Malta 1887".

Many members still around today under the surnames of Crispo-Barbaro, Barbaro, Barbaro-Sant, Zimmermann-Barbaro, and St George.

From the marriage of the 3rd Marquis di San Giorgio to Countess Carolina von Zimmermann, acquired the Germanic Title of Count to all its descendants . Lastly, this family carry the titles of Marquisate of San Giorgio and Counts von Zimmermann. Also a member of the family was created the title of Count of Santi, though was created as life, and also died without descendants.
