The Surname arrived in Malta with Pierre Jean Louis Ovide Doublet (1749-1824), secretary to the last Grandmaster von Hompesch.
He was part of the delegation that negotiated with Napoleon on board the Orient and he was later highly place in the French administration of the island.
He eventually wrote a book (which is now very rare) about his experiences.
Descendents of Ovide Doublet include SA Petroni and Antoine Zammit (Founder of Search Malta).
