One theory that needs investigating is that the origin of the giordmaina surname is french and possibly norman. it could be a derivation of jour meaning day and main meaning hand - the day of the hand, perhaps. Like several other maltese surnames as recently as the 1960's this surname flourished in only one or two areas in malta. in our case it was rabat and its surrounding villages, primarily at bahrija. there are probably many girdmainas that have made a name for themselves around the world and one day there will be some form of a directory listing them. personally i know of 5 scientists, 3 of them physicists that are alive today in canada and usa that are doing extremely well. i would love to hear from other giordmainas with their views and news either via this medium or by email direct.

Some of these surnames are not of Maltese Origin but all the surnames are found in Malta, also note that colors
appear different on various browsers and operating systems depending of the gamma correction (eg a dark blue color on a Mac can appear almost black on a PC, silver might appear as cyan etc.).
