The first Platamone was from Gozo in the 15th century.
Several branches played important roles in the early 16th century in Malta, then moved toward Sicily at the time of the Knights of St John arrival in Malta in 1530.
They Sicilian branch were quite successful, and bought Sicilian fiefs and intermarried with the Nobility.
Francesco Platamone was created PRINCIPE DI ROSOLINI IN 1673 IN SICILY and his descendants were created Dukes and Marquises.
This family intermarried with very rich and important Italian families. Queen Paola of Belgian, nee Ruffo de Calabria is a descendant of the Princely House of Platamone.
Presently, the Marquis Platamone still exist in Sicily, as the other branches died out and their titles succeeded thru their daughters.
