The family of Surdo came with the Knights of St John to Malta, and held high positions in Malta such as Tesoriere, Legal advisor to the Holy Inquistion and were created Hereditiary Patrician and Senators of Rome in 1590.
The family by marriage inherited the title of Castel Cicciano. A fief from Naples, which was acknowledged by the Grand Masters therefore a Maltese title.
